MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS CAR PHOTOGRAPHY

09/07/2020
Always tricky to source locations when you don’t know the area and Paul the JCW owner came up trumps with a brand new warehouse that the company that he works for had just started to move in, so plenty of machinery and steel works were located inside creating a maze for us to position the compact Mini in. The addition of the skylights filtered some natural light through and used two Profoto lights at the front and rear of the car lit up the edges and wheels to give a lift to the dark paintwork.

Paul’s car is a real stealthy looking car, sitting low on ATS wheels it’s all underneath the bonnet where the car is producing a real punch of power. We used different backdrops within the warehouse and then moved outside, this allowed for some of the moodier skies to give a contrast against the metallic grey which outside showed a green fleck to the paintwork. After some panning shots just on the outskirts of the industrial estate, the empty roads and the bark of the John Cooper Works exhaust sounded great. Gear then packed up and off to the next JCW photo shoot, this time a volcano orange coupe set against walls of graffiti. I’ll post some photos of that car soon.
